The Sacramento team is coached, managed, and directed by Chris Mann. Another first year team, Sacramento formed last fall. They played in the December Men's Open as a gift from Robert Mills, owner of the Metro City Soccer Indoor Arena in Rancho Cordova.
This tight knit team has team currently has six players training for the Street Soccer USA Cup. All of the players live in a transitional program at the Mather Community Campus and Adolfo Youth Services.
The team raised over $1250 from a triathlon the Mann participated in at the beginning of May called the Napa Vintage 1/2 Ironman Triathlon.
The Sacramento team has been training twice a week and is getting used to the heat. Since the team formed, four players have begun working, three have entered school, and two more have moved out on their own. Sacramento plans to show that homelessness is temporary, and Mather Community Campus has found a solution despite the current economy.
The team also gives back to their community. Cris works for the local foodbank, Matt is coordinator and representative for his softball team on campus, Wes works with paroled felons, Scott donates and works for Public Access Television in town, John works in transport and accounting. Vince is working towards his education and full-time employment.
Coach Chris Mann calls it "an honor to work with this group and watch the truth about their lives unfold. It gives the people I have come in contact with incredible satisfaction to know that their hard word is paying off.
