Dempsey, Hamm Join Street Soccer USA as National Ambassadors
Street Soccer USA announces US Soccer legends Mia Hamm and Clint Dempsey will serve as National Ambassadors to help drive inclusive soccer agenda.
September 26th, New York, New York—Street Soccer USA, a national network of city-wide street leagues with a focus on social impact, announced the addition of two of US Soccer’s most revered and recognized stars to its growing movement to level the playing for all youth. Twice named FIFA World Player of the year, Mia Hamm is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and Hailed universally as a soccer icon. Clint Dempsey is the most successful American men’s soccer player of all time. Clint scored 57 goals for the US men’s national team, tied for the most all time, and is peerless in the American men’s game in terms of his skillful and creative play.
“I grew up playing street soccer, playing freely, developing my skills and most importantly, my love for the game. I am excited to join Street Soccer USA to help grow street leagues across the country so the game is as inclusive and as creative as possible,” said Dempsey.
Hamm and Dempsey will use their voice to promote Street Soccer USA’s model for developing programs that are free, fun, local and targeted for the least served neighborhoods. The SSUSA curriculum and methodology is proven to develop the cognitive and non-cognitive skills of youth while keeping them healthy and active.
Hamm and Dempsey’s involvement follows the announcement follows the launch of Street Soccer USA National Board, chaired by former professional player and NBC Sports Anchor, Kyle Martino. Board members includes 2 time NBA MVP winner Steve Nash, Chairman of Relevant Sports, Charlie Stillitano, Zappos Founder Nick Swinmurm, Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, NY State Assembly Candidate Catalina Cruz, sports and child psychologist and cofounder of Personal Best Media, Dr. Marianne Engle, Principal and National Managing Director at Deloitte, Dan Helfich, sport and entertainment attorney, Abel M. Lezcano, CEO of Future Sense, Jim Finkelstein, founder of the world biggest non profit fundraising platform Classy.org Scot Chisholm, UC Berkeley Environmental Scientist Dr. Thomas Azwell, Chief of Staff at Redhorse Constructors, Laura Battung, Chairman of the Board of HELP USA, Maria Cuomo Cole, and principal of Sachs Policy Group, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs.
Nonprofit, Street Soccer USA was founded nine years ago by brothers Rob and Lawrence Cann. The organization then grew under the umbrella of national housing and social service provider, HELP USA in New York, and has since spread to 8 hub cities in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, and Charlotte with partner programs in 6 other cities. To date Street Soccer USA has helped over 15,000 youth and young adults and hosted in Street Soccer Cup in Times Square, Union Square, San Francisco, the Museum Steps in Philadelphia, L.A Live Los Angeles and will host National Cup for the first time in Sacramento, California on October 5-7th in partnership with the City of Sacramento and UC Davis Health.
