Bay Area: After Three Years, Rosa Parks Elementary Gets Its Own SSUSA Park

Street Soccer Bay Area partnered with SFUSD, the Shared Schoolyard Project and Docusign to build a Street Soccer USA Park in the Western Addition of San Francisco.

On Nov 14th, Global Impact Day for Docusign, 25 employees helped SSUSA  Bay Area transport a renovated court from Margaret Hayward Park (which is closed for construction) to Rosa Parks. Located in the heart of the Western Addition, Rosa Parks became one of SSUSA Bay Area’s first After School Program sites in 2014— and now is open to the community on the weekends for recreational use  in partnership with the Shared Schoolyard Project.

The very next weekend after the court was moved, we hosted over 150 kids from the neighborhood to play in our street league and enjoy games. District 5 Supervisor stopped by to applaud Street Soccer USA’s commitment to the Western Addition.

This park is more than just a place for children, teens and young adults to play soccer—it transforming under utilized space into places of community and opportunity. We are looking forward to working with our partners to build more programs and spaces for youth to play in the new year!
