A week-long soccer clinic with a new partner, A Place Called Home, highlighted a busy summer in Los Angeles for Street Soccer USA. The nonprofit is located in South Central, the center of SSUSA Los Angeles targeted engagement, and provides arts, education and wellness programs for local youth. More than 80 participants aged 7-16 enjoyed a week of World Cup-themed programming run by SSUSA in a fun and safe environment.
“The camp was a success, you and your team have done an awesome job… the coaches were great and engaged with the members and made great connections, said Head Athletics Coach Darrell Bryson from A Place Called Home.
The success of that partnership has led SSUSA to join the South Central Sports League for the 2019-20 school year. The youth participants who enjoyed the soccer programming this summer will have the opportunity to participate in weekly league play with and against their peers to continue to practice their teamwork and soccer skills.
The continually growing Los Angeles programming was on full display on August 24 at a 3v3 soccer tournament at the Watts Empowerment Center. Street Soccer USA’s free back-to-school soccer event featured many Los Angeles program partners, soccer, music and food in a celebration to close out the summer.
In the Los Angeles County, SSUSA serves over 400 youth, teens, and young adults through after-school programs throughout the region. SSUSA-Los Angeles is currently running programs in the Crenshaw, Watts, West Adams and Downtown neighborhoods.
