After a very successful SSUSA New York Cup, SSUSA Bay Area was next in line to keep the momentum going and host their annual Cup in Union Square, located in the heart of San Francisco. On July 28th and 29th the community came together to showcase the amazing partnerships, sponsors, volunteers, youth, teens and adults that we are honored to call Street Soccer USA – Bay Area.
It was a weekend full of relationship building, both on and off the soccer pitches, paired with lots of smiles, cheering, live music, good company and of course, some top notch soccer. Corporate Sponsors such as Zendesk, Stripe, UNIQLO, Senda Athletics, SF Parks and Rec, SFPD, Standard Deviant and Future Sense came out not only to support, but to jump in the action and play in the 4v4 tournament. Following the heat from the Corporate and Open Cup was the youth showcase. Over 90 youth from 11 different program partners spending across the East Bay all the way down to San Jose in the South Bay came out to play over the weekend. The crowd was left in awe as they watched SSUSA’s Elementary School and Middle School youth participants battle it out in two exciting separate 2 hour tournaments.
Just when the crowd thought things couldn’t get any more exciting, Men’s National Player and Earthquakes star Chris Wondolowski took the soccer court alongside Earthquake’s player Tommy Thompson, Khari Stephenson and Nick Lima to compete in the King of Court Match.
While it was an amazing 48 hours of talented and inspiring soccer players, the true trophy goes out to the volunteers, community partners and coaches that came together to make this Cup a reality. This was a true testament of what we can accomplish when people come together under a common goal.
