Soccer Tournaments Bring Together Celebrities, Government Officials, Corporate Sponsors and Local Communities to Fight Poverty and Strengthen Community in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and at Three-Day National Cup in Sacramento
Street Soccer USA announced today the dates and locations of the 2019 Cup Series, its annual street soccer tournaments held in iconic locations nationwide to celebrate the nonprofit’s impact and raise funds to sustain and expand its programs. The series kicks off on July 28 in San Francisco at a special summer soccer installation outside the Civic Center. From Sept. 6-8, the marquee, three-day National Cup presented by U.C. Davis Health and Sacramento Republic F.C. will be held in Sacramento, California on Capitol Mall. Street Soccer USA then takes over Times Square in the heart of New York City on Sept. 14, before the 2019 Cup Series closes out in Los Angeles at L.A. Live the second weekend of November. The full schedule is included below.
The Street Soccer USA Cups are annual festivals that provide competitive and exciting street soccer matches on unique pop-up fields for program participants, local partners, and supporters. With high-energy matches, special appearances by Athlete Ambassadors, and a lively atmosphere with music, food, and drinks, the Cups are can’t-miss events for soccer fans. The tournaments also create unique opportunities for sport to bring together those working to fight poverty and support low income and homeless youth and families, so that everyone can “Play for More” – more opportunities for growth and more ways to succeed. With apparel provided by national sponsor, Uniqlo, equipment by Senda Athletics and Kwik Goal and support from Help USA, ESPN Corporate Citizenship, and MLS WORKS, the Cups are the ultimate manifestation of teamwork and playing for bigger goals.
“The Cup Series embodies what’s best about sports,” said Street Soccer USA Co-Founder Lawrence Cann. “The Cups are community institutions that people look forward to every year. I’m so grateful to our city government and private sector partners who, through these citywide Cups, are helping to extend the benefits of team sports to all people, because the impact is real.”
Street Soccer USA uses soccer as a tool for youth development and social integration. In just ten years since its founding, Street Soccer USA has grown from a single team in Charlotte, North Carolina to a national nonprofit fully operating in seven cities and positively impacting more than 20,000 kids, teens and adults. Through its top-of-class soccer programming, Street Soccer USA provides a gateway for participants to access support and resources off the field necessary to achieve life goals. The demand to join the Street Soccer USA movement is greater than ever, and the nonprofit is working towards expansion to be fully operating in twenty-five cities engaging 100,000 members in the United States. The 2019 Cup Series is key to Street Soccer USA’s “Raising Our Game” national fundraising campaign to reach more markets and expand capacity to create a more level playing field for all.
